A little cross training never hurt.

Today I woke up early to try and make sure I got my workout in before heading over to my new place and working more at getting it ready. What I didn't know was that my girlfriend J and I have a different view of early. Things to remember I guess. So her idea of early meant at 7 am, which granted is not that early at all since when I start work on Monday I am going to have to be up at 5am. Since I am taking a vacation between college and work I thought that early meant 9am haha. So she and I went to the track to do some cross training. (she however is an amazing runner and I can never keep up with her)

Well I can say that I love biking much more than running but I will always run if I can to make sure that J and I can have some slow relaxing runs together on our easy days. The one thing I did notice is that when I run my knees start to hurt a lot. I am planning on buying some inserts for my shoes since I have extremely flat feet. Anyone else ever had problems with their knees before which they might be able to help? The workout consisted of running a 400 fast, walking a 200, 5 times. Since I am used to having a computer on my bike I forgot a watch and had absolutely no idea what pace I was running at. Oh well at least it was a nice day sunny and warm with a slight breeze.

After the run J and I headed to our new places and worked on getting our stuff settled. We both ordered new furniture for our apartments and are still waiting to get our stuff. It looks like we are going to get them in next Wednesday which is really inconvenient since it will be our third day of work. Oh well not much we can do but get everything else ready for when it gets there. We are both really excited to start work more me than her but I love work. I know that sounds crazy but I am the kind of person that has to have something to do or I go crazy. I took my bike and placed it in my new apt so I won't be riding it for a little while, so either the gym tomorrow or more cross training.

OH I almost forgot, one thing that J and I learned tonight, if you are making sure that you are watching the types of food your eating and trying to eat healthy, DON'T go to Chilli's Bar and Grill. We both got one of those Quesadilla's for under 7 dollars. It came with 4 little slices and a small side salad totaling 1,750 calories. We both were not expecting that at all. It pushed both of us way over our limits for the day. So just a word to the wise.

Day 1 of training

Today I started the training for the Highlander cycle tour. I was able to get a solid 9 hours of sleep last night which made me ready to go today. I put my bike together for the first time this year last night and found out that my battery died on my bike computer. I didn't get a chance to get a new one today so I will have to get one tomorrow.

After recently graduating from college with a Engineering degree I am now to start my full time job on Monday morning. So to help keep track of my training I have found two great websites. MapMyRide.com and on livestrong.com their is a my plate section which allows you to keep track of the food you eat and breaks everything down for you. Both of these are great sites I highly recommend them to anyone who wants to track their training and diets.

My ride today was 17.34 miles and approximately an hour and 4 minutes to complete. I am currently at home visiting with my parents before I start work so the terrain is pretty flat. I have discovered that I have a long way to go before I am ready for the highlander. With the 18 major climbs and the 11,000+ feet of climbing I need to hit the hills soon.

I am very glad that the weather turned out as nice as it did today, sunny warm (around 76 degrees) and barely a cloud in the sky. Do you ever stop and look at the day and just think about how lucky you are to be able to enjoy it. Today was one of those days. It just made me appreciate how amazing this world is and all the things I can be fortunate for. So my note for the day is to take a step back at some point and look at everything that makes you happy in life and really appreciate it.
